Beautiful Weekend; Early Week Rain Chances

A clear night is in store, albeit a cool one throughout the area. Temperatures will fall into the 30s to around 40 degrees by daybreak, with a light frost possible in some of the sheltered rural areas in the Chattahoochee Valley.

Both Saturday and Sunday look amazing weather-wise. One will be hard pressed to find a cloud in the sky as highs reach the upper 60s to around 70 degrees with very low humidity. Saturday night will feature clear skies as well and a couple of degrees warmer than tonight, with lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Our next chance of rainfall comes in late Monday night into Tuesday ahead of our next storm system. Current indications are there will not be any instability for this system to work with, negating the chance of thunderstorms, much less any type of severe weather.

Even cooler air moves in behind the early week storm system, with lows in the 30s areawide both Thursday and Friday mornings. A light freeze is possible throughout parts of our viewing area both days.

Enjoy the weekend and get outdoors if you can to savor this beautiful weather!

The U.S. State Department announced Friday that it has “a new permanent staffing plan” for the embassy.

The State Department will permanently scale back its mission to Cuba.

That means fewer staff.

Instead of re-staffing as before; the embassy will now be declared an “unaccompanied post” so staff members will not be joined by their families.

The new plan takes effect on March 5th.

The Havana embassy had already been operating with a reduced staff since lat September.

That’s when diplomats and family members were evacuated after suffering brain injuries.

The State Department says there were series of mystery “attacks” on the health diplomats.

Cuba’s communist government has denied that it had anything to do with any attack on U.S. personnel.

Deal signs adoption reforms into law

NEWS RELEASE

Gov. Nathan Deal today signed HB 159, legislation sponsored by Rep. Bert Reeves, to enact comprehensive reforms to Georgia’s adoption code.

“In this exceptional state in which so many choose to work, learn and create a home, we continue to value the cornerstone of our society: the family,” said Deal. “Today, I signed HB 159 into law, finally bringing much-needed reforms to our adoption laws and making it easier for adoptive parents to create a loving family in our state. This critical and bipartisan bill streamlines the adoption process and updates Georgia’s adoption laws for the 21st century. The work leading up to today has been years in the making, as we last updated these laws when I was in the state Senate, a full generation ago. With the signing of this bill into law, we are giving children, including the 13,500 children in foster care, renewed hope for a forever family.

“Many individuals played a role in this process and I appreciate the General Assembly’s focus on what truly matters: the well-being of our youngest citizens. I especially want to thank Rep. Bert Reeves for sponsoring this legislation and advocating for its passage throughout the legislative process. At times, even the best of ideas to better serve children require a tireless champion to make it across the finish line, and Bert has been that individual. The children in this state who yearn for a forever family are today closer to realizing their dream because of his determination.”

HB 159 passed the House on Feb. 1 with a vote of 168-0. It passed the Senate on Feb. 5 with a vote of 53-2.

“HB 159 represents the first major update of Georgia’s adoptions laws in almost three decades,” said Reeves. “With HB 159 being signed into law, families across our entire state will enjoy a more efficient and dependable process of adoption. This will reverse the unfortunate trend that we have seen, adoptive parents going to other states to adopt. This new law will also benefit the thousands of children, from newborns to foster children, who are in need of a loving, permanent home. This new law represents three years of work by the Georgia Council of Adoption Lawyers, Superior Court Judges, adoption agencies, and many others. The General Assembly worked hard to pass this very meaningful legislation, and the support received by Gov. Deal, Speaker Ralston, and Lt. Gov. Cagle was critical to the success of the bill. The signing of this bill into law is the proudest moment of my professional career, and I know that literally the lives of thousands of Georgians will be positively impacted for decades to come. This new law will help grow Georgia families.”

Cold Windy Wednesday

Colder weather will start off the Hump-day festivities.  Sunshine will dominate the daytime sky.  However, a gusty wind will make the afternoon hours feel like the 40s, so dress for Winter!

The wind, although diminished, may be just enough to prevent a frost Thursday morning.   However, the same cannot be said for Friday morning as the coldest part of this fresh Canadian air will be moving through.   A freeze is likely across the countryside, so any tender plants and vegetation should be taken care of.

Both days of this weekend will be milder, but they’re the exception to the colder rule.   Our next storm will feature rain and perhaps a thunderstorm from Saturday night through Sunday afternoon.   Keep that in mind for your outdoor weekend plans.

$

(CNN)- Some Target employees will soon see a bump in pay.

The retail giant says it is raising its minimum wage to $12 this spring.

That’s a dollar increase from its current level.

Officials with the company say seasonal job applications rose after the announcement of the upcoming pay hike.

They also say they are seeing a “much stronger pool of talent.”

However, some investors appear to be a little leery of the raise.

Shares of target dropped 5% on Tuesday.

This despite a 10% increase in the fourth-quarter revenue and a 30% leap in digital sales compared to the previous year.

Target says it still plans to make its minimum wage $15 per hour before the end of the decade.
